№ 05 — About

I design the systems that make complicated work feel obvious.

Background

I'm a Bay Area native designer, Bolivian-American, and the daughter of immigrants who taught me that good work speaks for itself. I came to design through operations and research, which means I still want to understand the machine before I redesign the dashboard attached to it. Outside work I'm hiking coastal trails and redwoods, dancing salsa and bachata, and writing songs nobody has heard yet.

Approach

  • Systems before screens

An interface that's easy to use is almost always sitting on top of a model that became honest.

  • Constraints as material

Compliance, legacy, headcount — these aren't obstacles to design around, they're the brief.

  • Quiet over loud

Restraint scales. Decoration has a maintenance cost.

  • Measured, not asserted

Outcomes you can defend to a CFO are the ones that fund the next project.
